Loading order changes how much fits. Break down boxes, dismantle furniture and cut long lumber to length before anything goes in. Bulky hollow items such as cabinets and appliances should be filled with smaller debris rather than tossed in whole.
Lay flat, heavy items on the floor of the container first: plywood, doors, countertops and drywall sheets. Build upward in even layers rather than piling everything against the door end, which wastes the far half of the box and makes the load unstable.
Never load above the fill line. An overfilled container cannot be tarped, and California law prevents the driver from hauling it. Keeping the top level is the difference between one haul and two.
