Planning Waste Removal for a Renovation

Renovation waste arrives in waves. Demolition creates the largest single burst, rough-in produces steady scrap, and finish work generates packaging and offcuts. Renting one container for the whole project usually means it sits full and idle during the middle phase.

A better sequence is a large box during demolition week, then a smaller container or a scheduled swap for the remaining phases. Coordinate delivery with your contractor's schedule so the box is on site the morning demo starts, not two days later.

Budget for the fact that demolition almost always reveals more material than the plan anticipated: old subfloor layers, hidden lath and plaster, or a second roof layer. Leaving room in the schedule for one extra swap prevents a stalled crew.
